July 15, 2024

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year.  We hope you took some time to relax and make special memories with your families and friends.  As we embark on a new school year, we are delighted to extend a warm welcome to all our students and families, both returning and new to J.W. Arnold Elementary School.  We look forward to our students returning to our classrooms and hallways and filling the building with their positive energy and enthusiasm for learning.

J.W. Arnold Elementary School is a special place to learn and grow. This year our school theme will be “Hooked on Learning; Anchored in Achievement.”  The well-being, safety, and educational progress of our students remain our top priorities.  To ensure a great start for each child, we have spent time reviewing performance data, identifying successful strategies for teaching, and reaffirming our commitment to make J.W. Arnold Elementary School an environment that reflects high expectations and opportunities for all students. As we prepare for the new school year, please take time to think about the important role you play in helping your child have a successful school year.  We encourage you to stay connected with your child’s teacher in order to build a strong home-to-school partnership. Frequent communication is of vital importance in building a meaningful instructional program for your child each year.  Before school starts, speak with your child about the importance of getting off to a great start.

Attendance is a priority at J.W. Arnold Elementary School.  Unfortunately, we did not meet the 90% CCRPI State goal for the 23/24 school year. We came in at 89.75%....So close, yet so far away! However, this year, a major emphasis will be placed on attendance. We have incentives planned to exceed the goal this year. Remember parents: A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn. Students are expected to be seated at their desks and ready to learn when the late bell rings at 7:45 AM. This allows all students and teachers to maximize school hours. Although daily attendance is a priority, if your student is ill, please keep the student at home. Please call the school office to inform us that your child will be absent and send an excuse note with the student when he/she returns to school.

The dress code for the 2024-2025 school year is the same. Shirt colors are blue (any shade), gold, yellow, or white.  The pants colors are blue, black or khakiAdditional information will be posted on J.W. Arnold’s website.  In addition, the county has mandated that all students PK-12th grade come to school using a clear bookbag. The district will not be providing the bags this year. Clear bags with designs are allowed as long as the designs do not interfere with the visibility into the bag.

Dismissal begins at 2:15 pm.  Students will not be allowed to checkout after 1:45 pm.

Please join us for Meet Your Teacher on Wednesday, July 31st from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.  Student class assignments will be posted on the front doors of the school at this time.  This is a great time to see familiar and new faces, visit your child’s classroom, and pick up a wish list.

Please pay close attention to the dates below for the beginning of the school year.  We encourage each of you to attend your child’s Curriculum Night.  At that time, you will have the opportunity to get to know your child’s teacher, tour the new classroom, and hear what and how your child will learn this year.  Be prepared for an evening packed with important information!

We look forward to another great year! Let’s embrace the 24/25 school year with excitement. Together, we will be “Hooked on Learning; Anchored in Achievement,” overcome obstacles, celebrate achievements, and create a learning community where every student can thrive.

Respectfully,

Nicole Chapman, Principal
